Truth seeker. Language lover. Messy perfectionist. Ever-growing learner. Christ follower. Welcome to my thoughts and my blog.

Hi! Thanks for stopping by! There’s a lot of external processing that happens around these parts, and I’m so grateful to have you join me. Words are the air I breathe, and because I process the world with them, I’m being a bit bold and throwing some of them onto the web for anyone interested in reading… because language is meant to be shared.

Language is the interface by which we engage the seen and unseen, the felt and the figured, the foreign and the familiar. It manifests the systems of power that oppress, exchange, and legitimize authority in our world. It creates solidarity and singularity. It has the ability to shape and remake the way we view the world. It uniquely defines us as human. Through words, we can hunt for meaning in every part of life.

And in that search, we can unveil the redeeming glory of Christ. So much on this earth can reek with brokenness, with the pain of weak, imperfect, sinful human beings – but brokenness tends to have a ring of truth, and truth is always necessary for full redemption. For each one of us, the only hope of redemption is in receiving the mercy of Jesus Christ, God incarnate, the only human to ever live a perfect life – and the One who willingly gave up His life and then rose from the dead that we might live free and forgiven with Him forever. There is pain in the world to be fully confronted, and all through it there is beauty that we can proclaim as stronger still.

This is my truth hunt: my search for ripples of grace that bring beauty into the light amid my own messy brokenness. Throughout my life, I have been given tremendous opportunities. I want to pursue each opportunity as a grace child – not a legacy child, accepting those privileges as a right; nor a striver, believing my performance is necessary to prove my place – but as a grace child, accepting every opportunity as a gift to make the most of and give forward.

Right now, that means facing the glaring inequities of American public education as a teacher in the Mississippi Delta. I’m jumping into a part of the nation I least expected and learning what I have least understood about my own home country. In the process, I’m discovering the rich warmth of the deep South. If you feel like following my journey (or jumping into some of the rest of the thoughts that swirl through my mind), welcome. I’m delighted to have you here. I hope that somewhere on this site, you will find a bit of encouragement, inspiration, or perspective. Feel free to send me a message at any time; I always love to talk.

Like every part of my life, my blog is a work in progress. Thank you for grace on the journey.

Unless otherwise stated, all photos are my own. Except the one on this page, taken on a whim by my amazing friend Elizabeth. I’m not THAT good at selfies.
